South Carolina is a wonderful place. South Carolina is flourishing now more than ever. We are excited to contribute to that growth and vibrancy by providing efficient home services across the state. In 2014, South Carolina home and business owners invested more than $3 million on solar installations. With so many options, it can seem daunting to find the right one for you and your home. As the nation’s #1 leading solar panel installer in 2020, our priority is providing quality service and saving you money. We strive to see South Carolina residents and businesses saving money and living efficiently!

South Carolina Solar Tax Credit

Cut the cost of installing solar on your home by a quarter with South Carolina’s state tax credit for solar energy. Residents of South Carolina can claim 25 percent of their solar costs as a tax credit. The state tax credit can only take $3,500 or 50% of your tax liability per year. If you don’t pay enough in taxes to get the full value of the credit in one year, it carries over for up to 10 years.

Duke Energy Progress Solar Rebate

Customers of Duke Energy Progress can get a $1.00 rebate for every watt (W) of solar power they install on their home or business! For an average 6-kilowatt (kW) system, that’s an extra $6,000 in your pocket to help cover the cost of going solar. Qualified customers in South Carolina have the option to apply for a rebate on roof or ground-mounted solar installation.

Santee Cooper Solar Rebate Program

Thanks to a new incentive program, Santee Cooper customers are eligible for a rebate of $1.30/W of solar energy that they install on their roofs, up to $5,200. Eligible Santee Cooper customers can get a cash incentive for every kilowatt (kW) of solar power installed. (Max. rebate level: $1,200). Another rebate through the Santee Cooper Smart is the Energy Existing Homes Program. This is for qualifying equipment installed in your home. The Smart Energy Loan Program for Renewable Energy is for up to $40,000 for qualified residential customers.

Net Metering in South Carolina

What is Net Metering you ask? It’s a solar incentive from the power company that can save you extra money. Net Metering is a system that allows homeowners to buy and sell electricity to the power company. When your solar panels make more electricity than your home is using, you actually sell that extra electricity back to the power company. During some months of the year you will create more electricity than you use. That amount of energy is then deducted from your monthly bill or can be credited toward a future bill in the same calendar year.

Net metering is currently offered throughout the state of South Carolina- including Columbia. You will benefit from the net metering program as long as your solar panels are connected to the utility grid.

The utility companies in Columbia and Spartanburg that provide net metering for their customers are:

  • Dominion Energy
  • Duke Energy Carolinas
  • Duke Energy Progress- currently offer one-to-one net metering, but their policies will change over time.
  • South Carolina Electric & Gas

Call your utility company to see if they can provide you with net metering to help you save with Efficient Home Services!
